Some games provide players an array of special weapons to use, but only allow one to be used at any given time. In games that use this mechanic, there is commonly a section of the head up display devoted to a representation of the special weapon the player has currently equipped.

Strong example Given the importance of effectively using special weapons in Ratchet and Clank [Allgier, 2002], the designers devote the lower left corner of the screen to an indication of Ratchet's current special weapon and how much ammunition it has remaining.
